Ocean Path — Decking, Fencing & Coastal Stair System
This waterfront property sits on a steep rocky bluff, with the house and upper terraces descending toward the ocean. The work included rebuilding the deck and railings, enclosing the property with custom fencing and gates, and replacing the deteriorated stair system leading to the shoreline.
Much of the construction had to be anchored directly into exposed bedrock. Fence posts, stair framing and structural supports required drilled rock anchors and custom saddles, while the steep slope meant portions of the stair work were completed using harnesses and rope-access methods. Materials for the waterfront stairs were barged to the beach and carried to the work area, with construction proceeding upward from the shoreline.
The new cedar stairs, fencing, gate and rebuilt deck were detailed to maintain the architectural language of the original residence, including its distinctive timber and glass railing design. Locally milled cedar was used throughout, carrying the character of the house down through the landscape rather than introducing an unrelated exterior system.
